And the days grow short when you reach September

Our travels took us east for September. First stop was Maine, where Sue's sister Nancy lives. We arrived, right after hurricane Irene passed through, for a family reunion in a beautiful spot.
Pemaquid Point lighthouse on the coast was beautiful, and you could go up in the lighthouse tower and see up and down the rocky coastline.
All the sisters and brother and their spouses had a good time together by the lakes and mountains.
The "kids" even took time to go through family archives together...
while I went kayaking.
There was time for fishing and boat rides and plenty of eating together,
finishing off the evenings around the campfire.
The reunion ended all too soon, and we headed to Boston for a couple days on our way to meetings at churches in Pennsylvania and Ohio.
At times the history of Boston seemed to get lost in the modern city, like old North Church tower. (remember: the picture enlarges when you click on it)
We stayed between Harvard and MIT campuses.
Taking a tour around the harbor, we saw Old Ironsides as rain clouds moved in.
The Old Statehouse was still impressive even surrounded by skyscrapers.
After driving through heavy rains in Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, and the Pocono mountains of Pennsylvania, we enjoyed a calm day in Pennsylvania Dutch country by Bird In Hand and Intercourse.
Between meetings, we visited one of my alma maters- Westminster College, where I did my masters work - in another Pennsylvania Dutch area, this time on the western side of the state. I still remember hearing horses clomping down the street pulling buggies while in classes there.
Pittsburgh is a town that has changed - for the better - since we lived there years ago.
And good friends from Pennsylvania got us to a Pirates' baseball game.
And the Pirates won!
All the meetings we had in churches went well and we enjoyed renewing friendships with so many people.
But each week, between meetings, we had to find somewhere to go. Next we headed down to Berlin, Ohio, to another Pennsylvania...no, wait...this time it was "Ohio Dutch" country.
Finally, we ended up on the Lake Erie coast at a village called Geneva on the Lake - a place pretty much closed down with the tourist season ended - but very relaxing for us.
This was the rainiest trip we ever took, but there were still many beautiful moments.
Safely home now, we're cleaned up and ready to leave for the next round of meetings.
