Early in June, we went to the dedication service of the new building where our niece Sarah works. It is a Chrstian organization called Tall Turf. They offer training as well as camp for inner city kids. The organization recently moved from the building where I went to elementary school into a "new" building which was formerly a very old firehouse.
It is located next to my old high school (in background of the shot-click on the picture to enlarge it). Inside the building, the walls are still the old firehouse walls with kickmarks from the horses and all, but with very nice recreation/class rooms and offices.
It was a very nice ribbon cutting service, and they have so much to be thankful for.
- Sarah, Karen (Sue's sister) and Sue -The next day we went to be with our grandson Jordan while his dad and mom went to a wedding in Canada over the weekend.
We started out Saturday at Meijer Gardens.
He liked the rabbit.I preached on Sunday. As we pulled into the church parking lot in the morning, his first comment was "I want my church." He wouldn't go into the children's class, but sat with Sue in the service. His eyes got big as he looked around the worship area which was about ten times the size of his church. He liked the music and grandma's singing. But as the preaching went on, his comment was, "Grandpa talks a lot!"
He survived it all though, and after church and lunch, we went to the park to swing.
Meanwhile, back in Brazil, the teens from our church were having their first ever weekend retreat that weekend. The reports we've received were that everyone loved it and some serious personal decisions were made by several of the teens.
Each morning and evening they had Bible study time and music.
But there was also free time for zip-lines and waterslides.
It was a new experience for the leaders, but they did a tremendous job!
Back here, one man's junk became another man's treasure as we had two weekends of yard sales. Things accumulated from storage and our old houses and from our kids' and my folks' house were finally put out - one Saturday at our apartment complex and the following Friday at our son Joel's house. We spent Father's day evening with Joel and his family. On the way home from Joel's, Aaron called so I got to have a little time with all my kids to celebrate.
