This day after Thanksgiving - a holiday not observed here - Sue took off with friends to do some Christmas shopping in the city of Campinas (about three hours away) which has several big malls. They’re not waiting in lines at three a.m. to get the best buys, which is something foreign around here, but they are making a big thing of this, and won’t be back until tomorrow evening. With everything going on here between remodeling, banking business, and getting ready for weekend activities, I opted out.
We had a great time last week Thursday night at a fifteenth birthday party for one of the girls
from church. These sweet fifteen parties are a big tradition for girls in Brazil. Everyone comes dressed up for a sit-down dinner, and it can set the parents back almos as much as her wedding. I was invited to give a devotional at the celebration. This is something I’ve never done before (parties are usually with clowns or magicians, right?), but it was a fine opportunity to share a part of her testimony and the Gospel.

During these past two weeks, two walls in the worship area have been knocked down, a new entry way to fellowship area and into the kitchen were also done. The walls need to be painted and some new crown molding put up, but otherwise, it’s pretty well done, giving us much needed area and better circulation in the building plus it looks great! There was a lot of set-up and take down, and running around for supplies, but overall, the project went smoothly. It is very unusual here to have a construction project done in the time given by the engineer, but the man we hired is a Christian and worked with us to have things cleaned up for the weekends and did an excellent job within the timeframe he had originally given us. When people came in for the service last night they were impressed!

Even though Thanksgiving isn’t recognized here, the folks from church wanted to have a special Thanksgiving service. We did just that, and about half the church came out for it which was good for a weeknight. Afterwards, we had a meal, but not turkey with all the trimmings; instead we ordered sandwiches by the meter (turkey, chicken and ham &cheese) and salads and for dessert Sue made pumpkin pies (which most had never had before). Easy set up and clean up. Everyone thought that was great, and no one went away hungry!
Not much news on the grandson front. He’s home safely and his mom and dad are pretty tired, but his great-grandparents got to see and hold him again this past weekend. Someday we will too!

Grandson news:
He's doing great!! He puts away 3 oz. of formula every 3-4 hours and sleeps pretty well.
His parents are tired, but very happy, and grateful for the holiday weekend.
Jordan's mom has had a bad cold for almost a week now, and dad had a fever last night.
Only 2 1/2 more weeks until you can hold him!! ;O]
