We just returned from a trip downtown to pick up some things needed for the church Christmas dinner this coming weekend. The temperature was just above ninety degrees, but men were putting up Christmas decorations on the street while we were shopping. Even after all these years with Christmas coming during the summer, I can’t deny that there are a couple days around Christmas that I miss the cold and snow! There were all kinds of Santas out and they’ve got to be sweating in those heavy red suits! The only place that makes any sense to me is one radio station near church that has their Santa dressed in surfer shorts and flip-flops.
This past week was another busy one. Sue’s ESL classes came to an end along with the regular school year (here school goes from February through November with summer vacation in December and January). Thursday night we had an overnight “lock-in” with the young people from church to celebrate the end of classes. We had a great time together with games, a good Bible study, dvds and lots of laughs. We made it through the night with them, but we were wiped out the next few days.
On Friday we had the praise team over to our place for pizza and some brain-storming regarding that ministry. It was a fun, and ran late, yet it was a profitable evening for everyone, but Sue and I were in denial if we thought we were awake for all that time.Saturday morning, by now almost in a “zombie” state, we went over early to clean and get the church set up for the weekend, make a visit and get a present for a birthday party that afternoon. Had a quick lunch, wrapped the present and went out to the party. Unfortunately we couldn’t stay for the Brazilian barbecue that night because of a discipleship and then finish getting things ready for Sunday.
Sunday you could tell that summer break has started as numbers were down, but the crowd that was there stayed around visiting for a long time after the service.
We feel we’ve caught up on sleep now, but this week something is happening every day and night. With Bible studies, practices, discipleships and two Christmas dinners, the week will go by quickly.
We got the first videos of our grandson Jordan this week, and I was amazed - he moves! With all the still shots we received, I thought he must be a pretty passive baby, but no! We hear he doesn’t like bath time, but who can blame him with the cold up in Michigan. No denying, dirty or clean, he’s still a cutie!
