Life is interesting as we continue settling in here. I took the word "wildfire" as just another term from a news item usually out of California, until one started in a valley down the street from our house. The fire was literally wild - out of control - as it spread rapidly through the valley. Certain areas of our housing development had to be evacuated. Several hundred acres burned, destroying a barn and a motor home, but thankfully nothing else. For days after, there was the smell of smoke and lots of soot around. The event even made the Los Angeles news. It made us think of what things we would want to save in such a situation - laptops, photos, etc - and they are now ready to grab if need be.
Sue's birthday became quite an event, lasting several days. The Saturday before, we had fun lunch with Aaron, Rachel and Ellie
Something that Sue has wanted to do is go to Cirque de Soleil. So on Monday, we drove down to San Deigo. I got round-trip flights to Las Vegas for $50 each. There we stayed at the beautiful Paris hotel.
From our room, we could watch the Bellagio fountains just beyond the Eiffle Tower. Of course it was more fun to go across the street to see and hear them up close. They really boom as they shoot up!At night we went to the Cirque. What an event that was! Though it was hard to follow the storyline, the acrobatics and music were incredible. So worth the trip!
We got back in time to see the midnight fountain show, and Sue's birthday ended with a spectacular National Anthem display. Coming back into our hotel, we had to stop by the Sugar Factory store just to look around of course.
We flew back to San Diego the next morning. And on the drive home we stopped by another factory - The Cheesecake Factory. Sue loves cheesecake so as her celebration wound down there was another birthday treat we couldn't pass it up. She got a piece of White Chocolate Caramel Macadamia Nut Cheesecake with a blond brownie crust. Now that was an event! Since I don't care much for cheesecake, I just settled for a Snicker Bar Chunks and Cheesecake covered with chocolate and carmel. Oh the sacrifice!
Once we were back home, it was time for another event - our granddaughter Ellie's eleven month "birthday". She is really growing (and so is her hair, with lots of curls).
She is such a joy to be around. And we take advantage of any time we can spend with her. Almost walking, she is curious about everything, and especially loves books.
All things considered it has been an eventful few weeks.
