We got one good night's sleep in our new house. The day after we arrived in Murrieta, we traveled back up route 15 to the Ontario airport - in east Los Angeles - to pick up Joel and his family who flew out from Michigan for a week to meet their niece Elliana (the one missing a sock).
There were fun days together. We went over to the San Luis Rey mission, the largest of the California missions, and then on to Oceanside beach. Unfortunately, the sky was overcast, but the waves were big and the water was warm.
Another day we all went to the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. Jordan and Ellie got up on the big rhino.
We took the tram ride around the park and saw lots of wild animals.
People were pretty tired and hot by the end of that day. Some slept while others rode the merry-go-round.
It has been five years since we had all of our family together, and we almost made it this time.
The day Joel flew out from Ontario, Natali flew in to San Diego.
She too came to meet her niece for the first time.
We wandered around the shops in town,
had picnics in the park,
and hit the farmers market - free samples, yummy strawberries and great cinnamon rolls.
When Labor Day rolled around, we planned to have a barbecue on our shady patio. We even bought a new patio table and chairs for it. Everything was set up outside, but by lunch time it was a hundred degrees, and everything was moved back inside and we ate in the air-conditioned house.
All too soon it was Natali's turn to head back to Michigan. Good memories were made, but as usual, there were tears with the good-byes.
