The last week of June, we flew out to California. Time to visit Aaron, Rachel and our granddaughter Elliana.
We had such a nice time together...once Ellie got used to us being around. We just did regular things, like going to the farmer's market in Temecula.
What big, delicious, freshly picked fruit and vegetables they had to offer.
Ellie came along everywhere, even though it was hot.
Though he works long hours during the week, there was time to play with Dad on the weekend.
And go to the pool.
And even wash the truck together.
Ellie discovered a new place that she liked to sit.
She likes shiny things like my watch and ring and forehead! Plus she found something new to suck on...Grandpa's nose!
On July 3rd we made the hour drive down to San Diego and Point Loma Navy base to celebrate Independence Day.
Skies were cloudy and temperatures were only around 70, but people still took time to go swimming.

On 4th of July, San Diego was the coolest place in the continental United States.
By picnic time, temperature was up to 64.
That didn't stop the fun of wandering around the base and taking part in the activities.
Including a watermelon eating contest.
By evening everyone had their sweatshirts back on, and we headed to the place we had reserved by the bay to watch the fireworks display.
We hung around talking and playing games until dark. Suddenly, three places around the bay lit up with fireworks! It was spectacular for the twelve seconds it lasted. But just as suddenly, it was over. We learned later that because of a computer glitch, all the fireworks went off at once.
The day after, we flew back to Michigan with lots of great memories.
