World Cup Fever

We didn't have any fevers, but still went out and got our free flu shots this morning. There are some advantages to being over sixty! Then we picked up groceries on the way home. Sue is working on a scrapbook of church people for our colleague Sue Lodico who is being assigned to another field. She’s been over at her house helping get ready for a garage sale to clear things out. Garage sales are a novelty here in Brazil so we’ll see how it goes.

Looking down the road ahead of us in a few months, I’ve started selling, donating or throwing out books from my library. We have already sold some furniture as well. Living in an apartment doesn’t work for having a garage sale when the time comes.

Last weekend was a long holiday weekend here. We enjoyed some downtime visiting with different friends each day, and of course each visit included food.

Last weekend also marked the second anniversary of the New Life Baptist Community church. The evening service was filled with praise and music and testimonies and a slideshow of all that’s gone on in the church’s short history.

But everyone agreed that God has done great things through this ministry. It was commented that there will never be an anniversary where all three couples involved would be there – last year the Smallmans were on furlough, this year the Blazers are in the states on their furlough and next year we will be gone.
With the World Cup starting tomorrow, everyone has the fever around here. Streets are decorated in green and yellow and stores are selling all kinds of team stuff.
Almost every corner has hawkers with flags, team jerseys, drums and horns…you name it. We’ll have to get our flag on our car by tomorrow morning!
Brazil doesn’t play until next Tuesday, but the guys at church are making sure everything is set up to show the game on the big screen there.

We'll all be there cheering them on!
