The power of all of us

It’s Monday and a little downtime from a busy schedule –services, planning meetings, visits, parties, farewells, trying to set up consultations with doctors…the list goes on.

Next week, Mateus, one of our teens, heads for Germany for a year on a student exchange program, so a week ago Saturday the kids had a good-bye party for him. He doesn’t eat many sweets but loves chocolate chip cookies, so he was presented with a giant sized one.
Along with food, there were games that involved his name, and at the end he was presented a small scrapbook – so it would fit into his suitcase – that Sue had made with pictures of things we’d done together with him as well as shots of all the kids in our group and each one wrote him a message by their picture.
We’ll miss his contribution in both our teen group and our small group.
There’s been little time off especially with the visits we’ve been making during the month. The folks we’ve visited have all expressed how much they appreciated the visit. Of course, at each place they served plenty to eat along with coffee and coke.
This past Saturday, we had a soup supper.
Weather was cool enough and there was a good group out to enjoy a dozen different homemade soups – from broccoli and bean to corn mush to zucchini – made by ladies and men of the church.
I’m not a big fan of soup, but I was in a minority that night. After dessert of chocolate cake and banana bread, folks hung around to visit and play games until almost midnight.
I usually don’t have any problems with my teeth, but these past few weeks one tooth became really sensitive so last week I finally called the dentist, who couldn’t schedule me in until early August. So today at lunch I found out the reason it was hurting, it broke in half on a piece of bread! Now, I’m waiting for a phone call to hear, day or night, when she can squeeze me in. Ugh! Hopefully not Thursday night as we’re having the first church ministries team meeting, something new that we’re starting to get more people involved in what’s happening!
