Run-around Sue!

It’s Wednesday afternoon, we’ve run through half the week already. I’m trying to find something quiet to do as Sue’s sick in bed right now.

The past week was one of running around getting everything ready for Marcos and Vanessa’s wedding. Over these past few years, Sue has become the adopted Mom of Vanessa and her sister since their mother died in a car crash. Now she was also her wedding planner and decorator.
There were early morning trips to the flower “feira” or market, to pick up decorations and later the flowers (the best part of those trips was getting breakfast at McDonalds, the coffee is so good!); three afternoons and evenings were spent taking down and setting up and decorating; then rehearsal (a novelty here that people thought was unnecessary);
the civil ceremony at the courthouse (since church weddings are not considered legal here) and finally the wedding on Saturday night. I did some of the things with Sue, but she did most - from putting decorating ideas into action to arranging flowers and bouquets. I forgot how long it takes getting everything together and written out for my part of the service.

Since the couple doesn’t have a lot, people gave wedding gifts of bridal gown rental, music for the ceremony, food for the reception and the wedding cake, photos and video, and - for ourselves - the flowers and decorations.
In the end, the church looked great, the ceremony went very well, and everyone had a great time. Marcos and Vanessa looked so nice and were so appreciative of all that was done by so many to make their wedding day memorable.
