It gets late early out here

The dust is finally settling a little around the church building with most of the workers that have been helping out there finishing up. Today was the first day that I was there for only an hour this morning to meet with someone (who didn’t show up). There are still things that need to be done, but they are like the minimum details right now.
We had another good group out this past Sunday. The front of the church is a reception area where we have a fellowship time after the service, and though refreshments are simple, folks hang around to visit and get to know each other. Saturday nights we continue to lead the young people’s program (with the help of our colleague Dave now). And there is also a college-age small group the meets there on the same night. We are in the planning stages for beginning several different small groups in August.
It’s Valentines Day in Brazil today. There was supposed to be a couple’s dinner for church, but it was rescheduled for July with so many other priorities to get taken care of. Our small group was cancelled for the evening so Sue and I are going out for dinner tonight – just the two of us. It seems like we don’t go out much lately unless it’s something to do with church. What’ll we talk about?

We’ve been concerned about my dad who fell last week, and has been in the hospital. He was supposed to be released yesterday, but would not be returning to the apartment that he’s shared with my mom in the retirement home. He will have to go to the health care area of the home as he goes through therapy. It is so hard to be so far away when different things like this go on.

We are proud of Aaron who received his black belt in Tae Kwon Do in an official ceremony a couple weeks ago, and his wife Rachel who passed the tough CSET tests toward teaching certification.
A bright spot in my folks’ lives is when Joel and Lynne bring Jordan for a visit each week. On our weekly phone visits, Mom always brightens up when we talk about her great grandson. Jordan seems to be enjoying the warm summer weather these days.

It’s getting dark out already, so I’d better get cleaned up to go out!
