The rains came down and the floods came up!

I just made the hot walk home after our mission field council meeting at church. Sue stayed there as her new ESL - English Second Language - classes start this evening. While we were there the exterminators came and sprayed for termites all over the church. They said not to worry about the smell, and that no one would get sick. We’ll see! Some men will start putting together a new platform area this week.
The prayer breakfast was great yesterday. Over sixty people came out to pray. After we ate, prayer times began in between devotionals and music. I had the first study time.
During prayer session for missionaries, it was amazing to see one of the guys I’ve been discipling get up and pray out loud in front of everyone for one of the missionaries our church helps support. A year ago I was encouraging him to write some prayers on 3x5 cards just to help him have something pray out loud if asked.
One neat part was writing out a confession of sin in our lives and then nailing it to a cross.
In another group we were in, a lady prayed out loud for the first time in her spiritual life. Folks may not think that’s a big thing, but it really is! By the time we finished, tt was getting to be lunch time.
Just before church last night some very strong storms came through town and knocked out power in a large section of town, including church. I’d never seen funnel clouds here in Brazil, but as the wind started to blow, I looked out the window and it sure looked like them to me. Lots of trees blew down in the area and the streets leading over to church were like rivers. Of course the roof leaked at church! We started shifting program around for the service, figuring we’d be without power, but about twenty minutes into the service power came back on. Driving home afterward though, there were still areas without lights.
I figured I’d better get this done now as the week ahead is pretty much filled up with pastors meeting, building search committee meeting, counseling, discipleships, studies, small groups and teens meeting. It’s good getting back to “normal”!
