Once in a Blue Moon!

I'd heard the expression "Once in a blue moon" many times before, but didn't know what it meant. I learned yesterday when a blue moon came around. It means a second full moon in one month, which is an unusual happening. One full moon during a month is normal, but not two, and the next time it's supposed to happen is 2028. The skies above Bauru cleared last night and we saw that moon, which incidently wasn't blue! 2009 came to an end last night. But before it did we had our family night at church, which was was relaxed and fun as well as inspiring. My part in the evening was to preach. Tim did a baby dedication. There are a few more of those - baby dedications - coming up in the next few weeks. We even had games with the different groups around the tables before we ate. Our table won the competition, but the victory was disputed since the winning table had a pastor as part of the
group.
Talent came in all shapes and sizes, and everyone seemed to enjoy it. But we're considering buying a gong before the next talent night.
We had a good time with friends bringing in the new year. The group started with about twenty-five people, but as the new year came in it grew to about forty.
We went out in the open to watch all the fireworks that welcomed in the new year. One thing here in Brazil is that they love a noisy start to the New Year. That was also when we saw the blue moon.
There was a special sharing time before we ate.
But when it came to eating there was more than enough to go around, with ham, turkey and shrimp along with the salads and side dishes. Sue's cappuccino freeze dessert was a big hit!
We finally headed home as it was getting on toward three in the morning, and then watched the stateside new year come in on TV.
May your goal throughout the year be to know God better, to talk with Him more often, to listen to Him speak through His Word more frequently, to love and care for His children more consistently and to love the lost more passionately. May God bless you and make you a blessing wherever you are!
