Friday night, there was no membership class, but we had the young couples group from church over as one stop on a progressive dinner.
This was something that they had never heard of before, but they all agreed that it was a really good time. After appetizers and salad they arrived at our place about ten-fifteen for the dinner course. There were fourteen in the group, and that was after losing one couple whose new car broke down between courses.
Folks were eating around the dining room table, in the living room and out on the front balcony. The view of the city at night was beautiful from up here on the 16th floor as rain had cleared the air about an hour before they arrived.
There were comments on how delicious the food was, and some of the guys wanted their wives to take classes with Sue. With each course, they had a couple of marriage questions for the hosts and did a brief devotional involving food in the Bible.
I’m glad we weren’t the dessert course as they didn’t leave here until almost eleven-thirty.
Instead of having the teen group meeting Saturday evening, the whole church was invited to a film night. Entry fee to get in to see the movie was one kilo of food for the church food cupboard, which is used to help needy families in the area. There was a good turnout for the movie, and a lot of food contributed.Earlier that afternoon, Sue was going to get a manicure at a shop just around the corner from where we live. It had rained just before she left, and going down the tile steps at the front of our building, she slipped and fell. She hurt her back and knee, but good news is nothing was broken and she was able to walk and went on to get her nails done!
Rainy days of summer are here again. I’m glad I went early for my walk to the post office, bank and church to get errands done because it’s pouring out now. But hey, at least you don’t have to shovel rain!
My mom has surprised everyone! Over the past several days, every time we’d come in the house, we’d check the answering machine to see if there was a call regarding her declining health. Instead a message arrives that she is sitting up in her bed, conversing and even eating some of her meals in the Dayroom of the assisted living center. This has been a surprise to everyone from the doctor to nurses to family. She’s down to about ninety pounds and not very mobile, but she’s hanging in there - tough little thing that she is!
